Expansion Modules

Overview

Expansion modules are optional hardware installed in an NCS/e system to extend the capabilities available to NCL programs.

Like peripherals, expansion modules communicate through the EXT bus and may read or modify registers supplied to their verbs. Unlike peripherals, expansion modules primarily provide additional computational operations rather than interfacing with external devices.

Programs using an expansion module require compatible hardware to be installed in the system.

Available modules

Fixed-Point Math Processor

Provides fixed-point arithmetic and advanced mathematical operations beyond the native integer arithmetic supported by the CPU.

String Expansion Processor

Provides advanced text-processing operations such as lexicographical comparison, structured data handling, encoding, and related string utilities.
